Holidays
The University of Alaska observes 12 paid holidays each calendar year. Staff also
receive a Personal Holiday each fiscal year.
Annual Leave
Annual leave is earned by staff each pay period. If you work less than full time (40
hours per week) your accrual rate is prorated.
Faculty Time Off
Faculty Time Off (FTO) is provided with each contract. Reach out to your union representative
for details.
Sick Leave
All benefit-eligible employees earn sick leave each pay period. If you work less than
full time (40 hours) your accrual rate is prorated.
Additional Leave Benefits
Including Jury Duty, Military Leave, Leave of Absence, and Leave Without Pay.

Family Medical Leave (FML) - Unum
FML is unpaid job protected leave should you need to be absent for your own serious
health condition or to care for an immediate family member with a serious health condition.
Short-term Disability (STD) - Unum
STD is available for short-term disabilities that prevent you from working for up
to 11 weeks. This is a University paid benefit for all eligible employees.
Long Term Disability (LTD) - Unum
LTD is available for long-term disabilities that prevent you from working for more
than 90 days. This is a University paid benefit for all eligible employees.
Parental Leave - UA
Parental Leave is available to parents who are on FML for the birth or adoption/placement
of their child and must be used in the first 6 months.
Leave Share - UA
The Leave Share Program is available to certain employees who experience leave without
pay while out on an approved FML event.
