Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in American women. Every October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Below we highlight two types of tests:
(1) preventive mammogram screening and (2) diagnostic mammogram screening. If you
are ever unsure what you might qualify for, or where to go for these services, please
reach out to TouchCare at 1-866-486-8242. Review this resource from our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) ComPsych for more high level information on Breast Cancer Awareness.
Preventive Mammogram Screening
Breast Cancer screening can be considered a preventive screening - covered at no cost on a UA Choice medical plan. Preventive screenings like this
are important in order to maintain health and catch potential issues early - sometimes
before symptoms even appear. A mammogram is an X-Ray of the breast that can even detect
abnormalities before any physical symptoms appear. Age and medical history may prompt
when you are eligible for a preventive mammogram screening. Please work directly with
your provider. More information on the importance of preventive screenings can be
found in our recent preventive screening news article.
Diagnostic Mammogram Screening
After a preventive mammogram, a supplemental and/or diagnostic exam may be medically
necessary to evaluate an abnormality that was detected. These additional screenings
can be a secondary mammogram, a breast resonance imaging, or a breast ultrasound.
Diagnostic may be covered in full under a UA Choice medical plan if an abnormality
is detected.
