Important: Retirement accounts update

Beginning January 2027, the University of Alaska (UA) is simplifying its retirement plan provider options. TIAA and Fidelity will become the exclusive providers for the Optional Retirement Program (ORP), UA Pension Plan, and Voluntary 403(b) plans.

Who is impacted and what do you need to do?

Current employees who contribute to Corebridge (VALIC) and Lincoln:

If you currently have ORP, UA Pension, or Voluntary 403(b) contributions going to Corebridge (VALIC) or Lincoln, you are grandfathered in.

  • Payroll contributions will continue uninterrupted.
  • If you  separate from retirement-eligible service or stop making contributions to these vendors any new or resumed contributions must go to TIAA or Fidelity.

Current employees contributing to American Funds, Vanguard, or VOYA:

Action Required: You will need to update your voluntary 403(b) to either TIAA or Fidelity by December 22, 2026. All affected employees (less than 100) have been communicated with directly regarding this change.

New employees:

Employees who are hired or re-hired with a start date after August 9, 2026, will be offered TIAA and Fidelity exclusively for the ORP, UA Pension Plan, and Voluntary 403(b) accounts.

What is not changing:

The State of Alaska PERS and TRS retirement plans are not affected by this provider consolidation.
