Questions about the ALRA Questionnaires? Here’s Where to Find Answers.
October 10, 2025
Reminder: You’ve received an email directing you to complete a questionnaire from the Alaska Labor Relations Agency (ALRA) regarding your position and its duties to aid the university and ALRA in determining if you’re eligible to be part of a potential union. Please complete the questionnaire(s) as soon as possible.
Where to Find Answers: We’ve posted some FAQ documents to answer key questions that have already come in about the questionnaires at alaska.edu/union-organizing. You can read below, or reach out to UA-labornotification@alaska.edu if you still have questions
Zoom Out: As noted in the October update on staff unionization efforts, UA and the Coalition of Alaskan University for Staff Equity (CAUSE) are working with the ALRA to determine if certain university positions are eligible to be part of a potential staff bargaining unit.
- The proposed unit is defined in an unconventional “everyone except…” manner and the CAUSE organizers would not agree to exclude clearly confidential or supervisory positions up front.
- As a result, ALRA is requiring broad outreach and everyone in the contested group — including obviously excludable positions like deans — received questionnaire(s). We appreciate your patience as we follow this required process.
Why It Matters: These questionnaires are required by the ALRA to assist in determining whether individual positions are confidential or supervisory under Alaska labor law.
- Employees who have received a questionnaire should complete it as soon as possible.
