University of Alaska Board of Regents Title IX
and Governance committees to meet July 23
WHO: The University of Alaska Board of Regents.
WHAT: The University of Alaska Board of Regents will hold two committee meetings this week: The Ad Hoc Committee on Title IX and Governance Committee.
During the Ad Hoc Committee on Title IX meeting, the regents will discuss changes to Title IX guidance released in May from the U.S. Department of Education. The new guidance revises how colleges and universities must handle allegations of harassment and sexual assault under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. The final ruling goes into effect on Aug. 14, 2020. The regents also will discuss changes to the university’s sex and gender-based discrimination policy, the student code of conduct and discrimination policies.
The Governance Committee will discuss the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems’ final report on the university’s governance structure and proposed revisions to the Bylaws of the Board of Regents outlining the roles of the UA Board of Regents, president, and chancellors.

- Thursday, July 23, 9-10:30 a.m.: Special Meeting of the Ad Hoc Committee on Title IX
- 1-2:30 p.m.: Special Meeting of the Governance Committee
