University of Alaska Regents announce Presidential Search Committee members and search timeline

Committee members represent key university partners, stakeholders from across Alaska; recruitment to begin early January 2026

(FAIRBANKS) —  The University of Alaska (UA) Board of Regents announced further details today on the search process and timeline for UA’s next president. Search Committee members have been selected, the Board continues to be on track to select a new president in the summer of 2026. The announcements come as the Board seeks public participation in next week’s listening sessions in Juneau, Fairbanks, and Anchorage, as they gather feedback on the qualities and attributes Alaskans believe UA’s next president should have.

“Alaskans’ input will play a key role in shaping the leadership profile and priorities for the next president, and I encourage students, staff, faculty, and community members to participate,” UA Board of Regents Chair Scott Jepsen said. “These listening sessions will allow us as a Board to hear from Alaskans about their desires for UA’s next president, and what qualities you think that person will need to thrive as the leader of our university system. The Board remains on track to begin formal recruitment after the first of the year, and to name a new president by May 2026.”

Members of the public who are unable to attend any of the listening sessions may submit feedback via the anonymous survey available here. All submissions are due by 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15.

WittKieffer, the firm assisting the Board with the presidential search process, will use the community feedback from the listening sessions to inform the candidate profile and position description. Full details on the in-person listening sessions are available at alaska.edu/pres/pres-search.
