University of Alaska Southeast Chancellor Search Underway 

Earlier this year, University of Alaska Southeast Chancellor Karen Carey announced that she would be retiring at the end of the academic year, June 30. A nine-member search committee has been appointed to recruit the next UAS chancellor, and today the committee made public the position profile, candidate attributes and search timeline.

The site includes a timeline for stakeholder participation in the search; a prospectus that provides nominators and potential candidates with information about UAS, its campuses and the communities it serves; the role of the chancellor; and, the desired qualifications and characteristics of a successful candidate.

“UAS seeks an inclusive leader with the background, passion and saavy to advocate for our University and expand educational and research opportunities for our students,” said Search Committee Co-chair Jennifer Ward. “We are a small yet diverse multi-campus regional university, dedicated to increasing Alaska Native representation throughout our programs and operations. The committee is highly engaged and looking forward to meeting our next Chancellor.”

Faculty, staff, students, alumni and community stakeholders will have ample opportunity to voice their opinions to the search committee during the search process including participation in listening sessions with the final candidates.

The next chancellor will be selected by University of Alaska President Pat Pitney this spring with the expectation of a start date of no later than July 1, 2023. 

The university invites applications and nominations for the chancellor position by Oct. 30, 2022. Complete applications must include a current curriculum vitae, a letter of interest describing relevant experience and interest in the position, and a list of three professional references.
