UA Foundation names new board members, officers

The University of Alaska Foundation has named two new members to its board of directors, added one new member to its investment committee, and elected a new slate of officers effective January 1. 

Joining the UA Foundation Board are Anna Atchison and Jonathon Taylor. Gail Schubert joins the board’s investment committee.

Atchison is the regional manager for Kinross Alaska, and alumna of University of Alaska Fairbanks. She is an executive officer for the Resource Development Council and the Council of Alaska Producers, a founding board member of the Golden Heart Community Foundation, and is chair of the UAF Chancellor’s Advisory Board. 

Jonathon Taylor is an account manager for Yuit Communications and alumnus of the University of Alaska Anchorage. He serves on the Board of Directors for Pulse Dance Company, Alaskans Together For Equality, and the Anchorage Community Development Authority. He is a former UAA student body president and member of the UAA Alumni Association board of directors.

Bering Straits Native Corporation CEO Gail Schubert serves on the boards of the Alaska Federation of Natives, Alaska Native Justice Center, ANCSA Regional Association, Commonwealth North, and the State of Alaska Renewable Energy Fund Advisory Committee. 

“Gail, Anna and Jonathon have distinguished themselves in their service to their communities, our state, and our university system,” said Laura Bruce, incoming board chair. “As alumni and as leaders in the business community, they understand the importance of education and training to Alaska’s future.”

Joining Board President Bruce on the 2022 slate of officers are Vice President Meg Nordale, GHEMM president; Secretary Stephanie Madsen, At-Sea Processors Association executive director; and Treasurer Julee Farley, Rasmuson Foundation vice president of finance and administration. 

“This is an exciting time for the University of Alaska Foundation and UA’s three universities,” said Dr. Tod Burnett, UA Foundation President. “As we approach UA’s historic $200 million For Alaska campaign goal, our board, under the leadership of these new officers and members, has the expertise and passion to support student success and propel the universities forward in education, training, and research critical to a healthy Alaskan economy and workforce.”  

The board is responsible for the governance of the UA Foundation and is composed of 24 volunteer public members, two members of the University of Alaska Board of Regents, the UA president, and chancellors from UAA, UAF, and UAS. Learn more information about the UA Foundation Board of Directors.
