Board of Regents to hold a special governance committee meeting; transmits reports to the Legislature and the governor; sets a date for January telephonic public testimony

FAIRBANKS – The University of Alaska Board of Regents’ Governance Committee will hold a special meeting via video 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 9, 2019, to discuss the process for the board’s policy audit and to review its 2020 work plan. The board will take up the work plan and a possible tuition increase at its January 17, 2020 meeting.

The recommendation to audit existing Board of Regents’ policies resulted from a workshop held on Nov. 7, 2019.

Additionally, the board will hold one hour of audio public testimony from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Jan. 14, 2020. Anyone interested in talking with the regents can call 1-866-726-0757.

The Board of Regents also transmitted its response to legislative intent that it consider a plan to transition the university from three separately accredited institutions into a single accredited institution. The intent language was included as part of UA’s operating budget. Additionally, the board was required to report to Gov. Mike Dunleavy on the university’s progress toward meeting the terms of the Aug. 13 compact that reduced the university’s budget cut from $136 million in one fiscal year to $70 million over three fiscal years.
