Joe Hayes

Executive Director, UAF Alumni Association Chair , System Governance Council

Hayes earned his bachelor's degree in political science from UAF in 1997. While at UAF he served as student body president and student regent. Hayes was the first-ever African-American UAF student body president and UA student regent and at graduation he received the Joel Wiegert Award as the outstanding senior man. Hayes served as chief of staff for Rep.Tom Brice from 1997-2000 and served in the Alaska State House from 2000-2002. While in office, he served on the Labor and Commerce and State Affairs Committees as well as the Special Committees for Military and Veterans Affairs and Administrative Review. As executive director of the UAF Alumni Association, Hayes reports to a 11-member board and is responsible for daily operations of the association including membership, fundraising, legislative outreach, advocacy and coordination of the annual alumni reunion.

Cathy Cahill

President, UAF Faculty Senate (2011-2012) Member, Faculty Alliance Member, System Governance Council

Cathy Cahill received her B.S. in Applied Physics from the University of California in 1990, her M.S. in Atmospheric Science from the University of Washington in 1994, and her Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science from the University of Nevada, Reno, and the Desert Research Institute in 1996. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UAF where she teaches General, Physical and Environmental Chemistry. She is also a member of the Geophysical Institute and her current research focuses on the sources, transport, transformation, and impacts of atmospheric aerosols. She has served on the Alliance since 2009.

Keni Campbell

Alumni Relations Manager, UAS Alumni Association () Member, System Governance Council

Keni Campbell joined the University of Alaska Southeast Office of Development & Alumni Relations in 2006 as Alumni Relations Manager. Previous to working for UAS she worked for the Alaska Council of School Administrators, a professional association for school superintendents. Keni has been an Alaskan since 1982, and has lived in Juneau since 1995. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Alaska Pacific University (class of 1993) and maintains State of Alaska teaching credentials. She has been married to Sergeant David Campbell of the Juneau Police Department for 20 years and has two teenage sons who are on the verge of entering the UA educational system.

Monique Musick

President, Statewide Administration Assembly (2011-2012) Vice Chair, Staff Alliance Member, System Governance Council

Monique Musick was born and raised in Ester, Alaska. She discovered photography in high school and has done it ever since. She attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and in 2001, earned a Journalism degree with an emphasis in photography. Following graduation she became the designer and production manager for Mushing Magazine. When the magazine was sold to new ownership, Monique leased the building and opened her own photo studio and gallery. Three years later the Publication Specialist position opened at Statewide and she came to work for UA Public Affairs. Here she gets to do what she enjoys: photography and graphic design. Monique became involved with SAA in 2009 shortly after coming to Statewide. She enjoys being an active member of system governance, supporting co-workers, and participating in policy review. She continues to run her photo business from home. In addition to photography she enjoys sports, outdoor activities, prospecting, music and time with friends.

This is my second year as the President of the United Students of the University of Alaska Southeast Juneau Campus (USUAS-JC), and I was elected in the Fall of 2012 as the  Speaker  p.t. for the Coalition of Student Leaders.  I grew up in Pullman, Washington and decided to come to UAS because of its natural beauty. This is my third  year at the UAS Juneau campus. I am working towards achieving a Bachelor of Arts and majoring in Social Sciences with an emphasis in Political Science, while my secondary concentrations are in Psychology and Sociology. I enjoy hanging out with friends and listening to music. I encourage any student from any campus to reach out to me if you have questions or concerns regarding the University of Alaska.

Ayla O'Scannell has served as a senator on ASUAF since April 2012. In September of 2012 she was elected Senate Chair and was later elected the UAF representative for the Coalition of Student Leaders. Ayla is in her third year at UAF studying Political Science.

I have been in Alaska since 1996 via the Army. I am married, retired from the military, and working for the Ketchikan Campus as the Human Resource Technician since 2000. I completed my Bachelor's in Liberal Arts majoring in Administration Management and Accounting from Excelsior College, Albany, New York in July 2005 (taking most of my required classes from UAS). I served as the Ketchikan Member - At- Large from 2006-2008, UAS Vice President from 2009-2011 and now UAS President of Staff Council. I am a member of Staff Alliance and serve on the Joint Health Care Committee, Staff Health Care Committee and various subcommittees. We are going to be presented with change opportunities and I am looking forward to assisting Staff with the information and the ability to advocate for them along with the other Staff Council members. I am looking forward to working with everyone and I am glad to be part of a team that is there to be the voice of staff.

Michael Stekoll

UAS Faculty Senate, President

Dr. Michael Stekoll is a professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Alaska SE with a joint appointment with the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Dr. Stekoll received a B.S. degree in chemistry from Stanford University in 1971 and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from UCLA in 1976. He subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Alaska Fairbanks from 1976-78. The University of Alaska hired him as an assistant professor of fisheries in 1978. He teaches classes in organic and biochemistry, water pollution and marine algae. His research has focused on aspects of nearshore biology and ecology including the effects of pollution and the techniques of mariculture. He has been a lead investigator in several projects relating to marine macrophyte ecology in Alaska. He has been department chair over several years, has served on the Faculty Alliance 2001-2003 and 2011-2013, and  he was chair of the UAS Faculty Council 1998-99 and 2002-2003.

Shauna Thorton

KRC Student Union, Past President

Shauna Thornton has been a member of the KRC Student Union for several years, and a member of the Coalition of Student Leaders for the past two years. She successfully led the KRCSU to rally against cuts to the campus budget saving the campus hundreds of thousands of dollars, and was one of the leaders in Juneau for need based financial aid.
