    In just a few weeks, our universities will kick off the fall semester. In preparation for that, the systemwide leaders and their teams have been working to update our on-site operations plan and several of our guidance documents.These updated documents are posted on our University of Alaska COVID-19 website. Here's what you need to know.

  • Changes to UA's policy on sex and gender-based discrimination

    In response to new federal Title IX guidelines, the Board of Regents today approved significant revisions to Regents' policy, and I have signed the enabling regulations regarding sex and gender based discrimination. The changes detail new specific procedures that all universities must follow in cases of sexual harassment and assault on campuses in accordance with the new federal rule, and become effective August 14, 2020.

  • University of Alaska Board of Regents to meet June 30 to discuss interim UA President

    The University of Alaska Board of Regents will meet from 10-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30 to discuss the process for appointing an interim president.

President Rizk discussed her appointment as acting president, the expected process for naming an interim and answered questions from Statewide staff.

    The University of Alaska is taking the first step toward a seamless student experience by launching the UA Digital Transformation Readiness Assessment.UA is investing $100,000 in FY20 to study the university's readiness to better incorporate cloud-based technology and to use technology to better engage students.

  • Campus offices closed for Independence holiday

    The University of Alaska will celebrate the Independence Day holiday, Thursday and Friday, July 2-3, during which all campus offices will be closed.

  • Wellness program deadline is June 30

    The deadline for the wellness program is June 30, 2020. This means that you still have about a month to complete the program requirements and earn your wellness rebate up to $600.

  • Message from Regent Buretta and Acting President Michelle Rizk on today's Board of Regents action

    Acting President Michelle Rizk and I write to advise you that President Jim Johnsen has resigned as UA System president, a decision that was mutual and made after considerable reflection by the Board. The Board of Regents accepted his resignation this afternoon, authorized me to implement the details of his resignation, and appoint an acting president. President Johnsen will be available to assist with the transition until July 1 when his resignation goes into effect.

    University of Alaska Board of Regents Chair Sheri Buretta announced today that after consultation with the Board of Regents, UA President Jim Johnsen is resigning as UA System president. Buretta said the decision regarding a change in leadership was mutual and was made after considerable reflection by the Board. At a meeting today, the board accepted Johnsen's resignation, authorized Buretta to implement the resignation, and to appoint an acting president. Johnsen will be available to assist with the transition until July 1.
