Key Information
- The largest beneficiary of the proceeds from UA land holdings is the UA Scholars Program, which awards $12,000 scholarships to the top ten percent of high school graduates in Alaska each year. The conveyance of outstanding lands will secure this important investment in Alaska’s future.
- UA Land Management manages a blended portfolio of natural resource development, land sales and leases, and alternative revenue streams including a potential carbon sequestration program. Our plan for our final Land Grant parcels will be no different.
- All outstanding Land Grant selections must be selected from the State of Alaska’s remaining general selections. Any development activity on UA land holdings (either current or future) will have an accompanying public notice.

October 11, 2023 - Mentasta Public Notice
The State of Alaska's Department of Natural Resources issued a public notice for comment on the second set of proposed selections from the University of Alaska. This set contains approximately 24,160 acres of land north of Mentasta Lake, west of the Tok Cutoff Highway, and south of the Tok River in the Mentasta and Dry Tok Creek Areas (see map below). These lands are the second set of proposed selection to be public noticed under the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023. September 8, 2023 - Ray Mountains Public Notice Closed
The public commenting period for the Ray Mountains Public Notice closed on September 8, 2023. The Alaska Department of Natural Resourced extended the commenting period from the original closing date of August 23, 2023 to provide additional time for comment. Public comments submitted are being reviewed by state adjudicators and a decision will be issued by Alaska DNR some time in the future.
July 19, 2023 - Ray Mountains Public Notice
The State of Alaska's Department of Natural Resources issued a public notice for comment on the first set of proposed selections from the University of Alaska. This set contains approximately 96,406 acres of the Ray Mountains, that includes Spooky Valley, located about 120 miles northwest of Fairbanks, Alaska (see map below). These lands are the first set of proposed selection to be public noticed under the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023.
