Vis Space and Dev Space
Alaska EPSCoR maintains a Development Space ("Dev Space"), which is used to experiment with virtual reality and other forms of visualization. The space, located in Room 010 of the West Ridge Research Building, contains a number of development tools, including five VR setups; a Dji drone and two 360 cameras; a Surface Hub 2S, Surface Studio and Surface Pro tablet; and a host of software for developing visualizations. The equipment is available for public use; for more information email ua-epscor@alaska.edu.
In 2016, EPSCoR took the lead in constructing Vis Space (external website), a visualization facility consisting of a bank of high-definition monitors providing upwards of 60 million pixels of resolution, connected directly to UAF high-performance computing and storage. Located at Room 010 WRRB, across the hall from Dev Space, Vis Space is now run by the UAF Geophysical Institute, though EPSCoR is a regular user. The versatile space has been used for hundreds of meetings, conferences, seminars, webinars, classes, trainings, and thesis defenses.
