For mentors

All mentors in the Alaska Statewide Mentor Project (ASMP) participate in professional development through four main learning modules throughout the year. Mentor trainers lead the Professional Learning Series (PLS 1-4) during the first year and the Quality Instructional Mentoring (QIM 5-8) during the second year.

How to apply

Application process

Our team will follow up with an application packet, to include essay questions, a résumé with references, and two recommendation letters. Candidates must have at least five years of Alaska teaching experience and hold a current teaching certificate. Finalists are invited to interview in early March. Selected mentors are hired as temporary adjuncts at UAF, with the opportunity to renew their contracts annually. , Each mentor supports a caseload of 8-15 teachers, travels statewide, and participates in ongoing professional development and training.

Our research-based outcomes of ASMP include:

  1. Increased student learning
  2. Increased teacher retention
  3. Increased teacher effectiveness

Mentored teachers not only stay in the profession longer than other teachers but also achieve greater professional efficacy over the course of their careers, with greater gains in student achievement.
