Mitigation Potential
ENVIRONMENTAL MITIGATION OR CONSERVATION OPPORTUNITIES
At times, construction and development activities may require access to mitigation
or credit(s) for changes made, damage done, or destruction to environmentally-sensitive
habitat. The University has properties that are appropriate for uses such as wetlands
                        mitigation, carbon credits,
conservation opportunities, and other environmental mitigation. Land Management has
sold multiple properties to third parties for use as mitigation credits and conservation
opportunities. Land Management welcomes discussions regarding mitigation potential
for University land. For example, we continue to analyze the potential of engaging
in a carbon credit program on all University of Alaska lands, including the proposed
Haines 10-Year Timber Sale. Land Management is still in the beginning stages of this complex process and continues
its review of University lands that best fit the carbon credit program.
