    The Alaska State Legislature recently passed a resolution to honor the life and legacy of Merritt Helferrich. During his time at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Helferrich served as associate director of the Geophysical Institute at UAF and project director of the International Arctic Research Center building project.

    On Thursday, April 18, the Alaska Senate/House Joint Committee confirmed John Bania and Darroll R. Hargraves as members of University of Alaska Board of Regents. Gov. Michael Dunleavy appointed Regent Hargraves on January 3, and Regent Bania on February 1.

    Associate Vice President for Workforce Programs Fred Villa was recently honored with a statewide award recognizing his tireless and heartfelt efforts to advance career and technical education in Alaska. Commissioner Tamika Ledbetter presented him with the David G. Stone Postsecondary Career and Technical Education Administrator of the Year Award during the Alaska Workforce Investment Board in February.

    University of Alaska President Jim Johnsen joined the nation’s top military leaders for a two-day national discussion on sexual assault and harassment on the campuses of America’s colleges, universities and service academies. Johnsen was part of a leadership panel with other prominent higher education leaders, and will present at a breakout session on April 4.

  • Dustin Bryant hired as Director of Federal Relations

    Dustin Bryant joined UA's leadership team on Dec. 3 as the director of federal relations for the University of Alaska System. He is based in Washington, D.C. where he works closely with our government relations team on critical federal issues including efforts to increase our land grant, federal investment at UA, and research-related priorities.
