2013-2019
A mid-westerner by birth and an Alaskan by choice, my husband, baby daughter, and
I moved here in 1984 from Ohio, where I graduated from Bowling Green State University
with degrees in elementary and special education. After arriving in Alaska, I taught
elementary and middle school students in Wasilla for 26 years. Our family has grown,
and there are now eight who call me Grandma, all living in Fairbanks and the Mat-Su.
Besides family, I enjoy sewing, reading, traveling and spending time at our log cabin.
Teaching was a wonderful career for me, and I feel privileged to positively impact
the future of my state through this new generation of educators, providing resources
and support as they navigate life among the diverse cultures and landscapes of the
Last Frontier.
"I've always been drawn to the new teachers in my schools, making them feel welcome,
guiding them to the resources they need, and helping them to learn the "culture" of
the building. I look forward to being a mentor for Alaska's early career teachers
as a way to positively impact the future of my state through this new generation of
educators."
