Mentor Biography

Dawn Wilcox

2022 to Present

I am a third generation Alaskan and have a deep love for our state and its people.  When the youngest of our four children entered kindergarten, I returned to school to complete my teaching degree.  I graduated from UAA with a K-8 certification and continued on at the University of Connecticut with a MA in Educational Psychology/Gifted Education.  I have enjoyed a variety of teaching experiences, from teaching highly gifted students to working for ASD in STEM education to Title 1 teaching and f inally, helping to launch Anchorage‚Äôs first STEM elementary school.  Every experience has broadened my understanding of teaching and learning. I look forward to sharing that with beginning teachers in the coming years while also learning from them.  In my free time, I love hiking, biking, travel, and spending time with my three grandchildren.

"It is my joy to help beginning teachers gain skills and confidence in the classroom. Village travel fostering teacher retention and student achievement is very rewarding."
