2026 Staff Make Students Count winners honored

At the May 20 Board of Regents meeting, President Pitney recognized the winners of this year’s “Staff Makes Student Count Awards,” which celebrate staff from each university and the System Office who have made a difference in students' lives. Staff members are nominated by their peers, and each awardee receives a plaque, $1,000, and two Alaska Airlines vouchers. 

Congratulations to all of this year’s Staff Make Student Awardees!

Audrey Badger, financial aid advisor at Mat-Su College, was recognized for her commitment to student success. Badger advises the campus student newspaper, the Mat-Su Monitor, and serves as advisor for the Student Government Council. She secured a grant to fund food boxes for food-insecure students and has had a lasting positive impact on the Mat-Su College student community.

Mark Oldmixon, director of Nanook Recreation at UAF, was recognized for 20 years of service to the university. Oldmixon ensured the success of the Book Bundle program, created a cycling program for students and staff, arranges affordable downhill skiing tickets for students, and supports physical health, mental well-being and student retention.

Kailey Pritzl, program coordinator for Academic Exchange and Study Abroad at UAS, was recognized for her dedication to making students feel welcome. Pritzl gives individualized tours for each visiting student, group or family, finds additional scholarships for UAS outbound exchange students, provides unique experiences for students to connect with the environment, and volunteers for the UAS BEARS Committee.

Noel Romanovsky of the UA System Office was recognized for support of the Coalition of Student Leaders. Romanovsky directly supports the Student Advocacy Trip in Juneau, guides students in presenting professionalism and leadership at the Capitol, and facilitates learning opportunities that engage students in shared governance and civic advocacy.
