2021 Holiday Schedule

The University of Alaska observes 12 paid holidays a year:

  • New Year's Day
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Celebration of Alaska Civil Rights
  • Friday of Spring Break  
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day and the following Friday
  • Christmas Day 
  • The day before or after New Year's, Independence Day, and Christmas are also observed as holidays

This year these paid holidays fall on the following dates: 

  • Jan. 18 - Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Celebration of Alaska Civil Rights
  • March 12 - Friday before Spring Break
  • May 31 - Memorial Day
  • July 5-6 - Holidays following Independence Day
  • Sept. 6 - Labor Day 
  • Nov. 25-26 - Thanksgiving
  • Dec. 23-24 - Days leading up to Christmas 

The University observes a hard closure during the three days from Christmas to New Year's. Employees will need to use Annual Leave, Faculty Time Off, Personal Holiday, and/or Leave Without Pay during those three days. Leave Without Pay must be approved by the employee's supervisor.
