Payment Card Industry (PCI)

The Payment Card Industry (PCI) Security Standards Council is a council formed by the payment card industry including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB International, and Discover.  The PCI oversees maintaining payment security as a requirement for all entities or institutions that store, process, or transmit cardholder data. Guidance for maintaining payment security is provided in PCI Data Security Standards (DSS). These standards guide the handling and restriction of cardholder data, computer and Internet security, and reporting of breaches. For organizations accepting or processing payments, these standards set the operational and technical requirements, as well as setting the requirements for software developers of technology used in payment card transactions.

The University of Alaska is committed to appropriate data security, and all payment card transactions are executed in compliance with standards established by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council.
