UAA interim chancellor selection process

During an emergency meeting on Nov. 11, Interim UA President Pat Pitney updated the Board of Regents on the process for selecting an interim UAA chancellor to serve until the search for Chancellor Sandeen's permanent replacement concludes. The expedited but inclusive process incorporates plans for an open public forum on Dec. 3-4 so that everyone can meet the finalists.

The selection committee solicited input from faculty, staff, students, administrators, and alumni on the attributes the interim chancellor should possess, and HR has compiled a list of candidates nominated from a variety of sources. More than 300 employees, students, and alumni responded to the attributes survey and HR received more than 90 nominations for the position.

Interim UA President Pat Pitney and the review committee evaluated the candidate pool against the attributes and will narrow down the list of finalists. The vast number of nominations has meant that it will take longer than initially anticipated to produce a short list which once approved by President Pitney will be the finalists for the position. Once the final list of candidates is selected, the names will be made public. Pitney’s intent is to name an interim chancellor no later than Dec. 11, 2020.
