Curious about HAARP? Catch this weekend's Science for Alaska talk

July 10, 2026

Have you ever wondered about the research taking place at the High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program facility near Gakona, Alaska, and how it connects to everyday life?

This Saturday, UAF's Geophysical Institute and Explore Fairbanks are hosting the second talk of the Science for Alaska Summer Series, featuring Evans Callis, HAARP's Research Support Services Lead. Callis will give an overview of the HAARP facility and its contributions to cutting-edge ionospheric research, including the Subauroral Geophysical Observatory, which has spent five years advancing our understanding of the near-Earth space environment.

The talk runs from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center in Fairbanks. In-person attendance is encouraged, and the talk will also stream live on Facebook at UAF.GI
