Annual Title IX Responsible Employee notice & required training reminder

October 2, 2026

The University of Alaska, pursuant to Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, does not discriminate on the basis of sex. The university’s commitment to nondiscrimination applies to all applicants, faculty, staff, students, student-employees, volunteers, affiliates, and contractors in a manner consistent with all applicable laws, regulations, ordinances, orders, and Board of Regents’ Policies, University Regulations, and related internal processes and procedures.

Annual UA Safe Title IX Training due October 31, 2026

UA is committed to providing a positive learning and working environment and fostering safe, healthy relationships within our campus community. As such, the university requires all students, employees, and volunteers to complete annual training on sex and gender-based discrimination under Title IX. The goal of this training is to ensure that members of the campus community have the knowledge and skills they need to prevent, recognize, and report sex and gender-based discrimination and harassment at UA.

UA Safe Title IX Training is mandatory and must be completed by October 31, 2026. Please use the links below to access the training through your campus’s learning management system:

The training will take approximately 1 hour to complete. If needed, you may start and stop at any point, and your progress will be saved. Once you have completed the training in Blackboard or Canvas, your completion will be automatically updated in the official UA training record. Supervisors should utilize the UA Required Training Status Dashboard to check the training completion status of their employees. If you or a supervisor have additional questions regarding your training completion, you may contact your Office of Rights, Compliance, and Accountability (ORCA) / Office of Civil Rights (OCR).

We recognize that some individuals who may be asked to take this training have experienced sex and gender-based discrimination or sexual harassment. In the event you are unable to complete this training due to personal experiences, please submit the appropriate release request:

Reporting options and responsibilities

As responsible employees, UA staff, faculty, Residence Life student employees, UAF orientation leaders, and graduate student employees are required to report any sex or gender-based discrimination, including sexual assault and sexual harassment, they become aware of to their campus Title IX Coordinator within 24 hours.

Responsible employees must promptly report all incident details, including names; anonymous reports do not satisfy this duty. Complete reporting enables UA to stop harassment, provide supportive resources, and ensure community safety. Any inappropriate behavior falling outside of Title IX will be addressed under other applicable policies.

For sex discrimination claims or other inquiries concerning the application of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and its implementing regulations, individuals may contact their campus Title IX Coordinator, or the assistant secretary in the U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights, or both:
