UA Land Management conducts outreach in Petersburg

May 26, 2023

The Land Management Office had a booth at the Petersburg Little Norway Festival on May 19, conducting outreach and promoting sales and development opportunities on the university's landholdings in southeast Alaska. It was also an opportunity for gathering community input on land development in the borough. Historically the area has been used for timber harvest activity, but UA Land Management is transitioning the majority of parcels to leasing and carbon credits.

There was a great turnout with people from around Alaska and the world, including a UAF alumni who now lives in Scotland and was returning to Alaska for the first time with his wife and children. This was a great opportunity to hear from the community on land development needs and ideas. We heard from local leaders in the community as well.

The team looks forward to more outreach and site visits this summer. These small community events are extremely valuable and UA Lands would love to see other university reps share booths.
