Now you can opt in to Rave Smart 911 via the UA Emergency Notification Website

February 6, 2026

What is Rave? The University of Alaska uses a sophisticated emergency notification system, Rave, to distribute information about emergencies that may disrupt university operations. This multi-modal system of notification includes:

  • Personal Notification
    • Via email, telephone, and text messages via Rave Mobile Safety and Rave Guardian/UA Alert App
  • Mass Notification (where available)
    • Loudspeakers, audio alerts through Voice Over IP phones, visual alerts on hallway beacons, desktop computers and digital signage

Who is enrolled to receive emergency notices? Everyone with an active employment status and/or current students within the University of Alaska system are automatically enrolled. There is no opt-out option for the emergency notification system.

What is this new Smart 911 option? Through a new integration with the Smart 911 service, UA affiliated people can opt-in (and subsequently opt-out) for weather and civil emergency messages for any university locations or sites they wish, and non-affiliated people can opt-in/opt-out for emergency and outreach communication, weather notifications, and civil emergency messages.

How do I enroll? The Rave Smart 911 app is accessible through UA Alert, on the lower right-side of the webpage. To comply with the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the Smart 911 website asks people to confirm twice a year that they wish to continue to receive Smart 911 communication.

How do I manage my contact information? Individuals can manage their preferences, including phone numbers and preferred email, and learn more on the emergency notification website.
