New University GenAI policies and guidelines now available
October 3, 2025
The University of Alaska’s Office of Information Technology has released new Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) policies and resources to help employees navigate this fast-moving technology.
The AI Resource site provides guidance and policy to help staff and faculty navigate considerations related to the use of GenAI, including a list of evaluated AI products and those available for broad use at UA.
The site includes:
- Policies and guidelines from the UA Office of Information Technology (OIT) outlining
how GenAI can be responsibly used in teaching, research, and administrative work.
- A list of evaluated AI products, including which tools are approved for broad use
at UA and which carry additional restrictions.
- Guidance on compliance and risk management to ensure the university remains aligned
with privacy, copyright, and data security standards.
- Research considerations that address how GenAI may be integrated into grant projects
or scholarly work.
- A GenAI tool risk assessment to help employees evaluate new tools before adopting them.
University staff are continuing to expand and update these guidelines, with more content to be added as policy work progresses.
