March Training

New classes being offered in March include Office 2010 and Google Groups. Check out the training calendar for the latest offerings.


Blackboard has been upgraded from v8 to v9.1.� To that end, we are offering a variety of introductory sessions to acquaint you with the upgraded Blackboard interface (and yes, it IS different).� So watch for those sessions - for more information click on our calendar to sign up!

iTunes U

iTunes U is active and faculty who want to start using iTunes U must sign up for a course account and after they receive their course account access, we encourage you to sign up for and attend one of our "Configuring Your iTunes U Course Account" classes. - iTunes U course account signup is at http://www.uaf.edu/multimedia/podcasts/submit.html

With the advent of iTunes U you may be interested in creating podcast content that can be uploaded to your iTunes U account. We currently offer a podcast creation class that uses Apple's GarageBand so if you are interested, you can sign up for one of our podcast related classes on our calendar.

Atomic Learning

Don't forget, that for those quick I need to know how to questions, sometimes the answer is a web site away - Take a look at http://www.atomiclearning.com/highed/ for short FREE 2-3 minutes videos on a variety of software that you may be using.

Drop-in Training

Remember that you can drop by our office in 319B Bunnell if you need some one-on-one help or have a question, we also are willing to train a group from your office as well.� And of course there are our usual Friday drop-in hours of 1-2 pm for Google Apps-iTunesU-Podcasting� help, Blackboard (the current version or the scheduled new version)� from 2-4 pm in 319B Bunnell and TOAD-Roxen from 2-4 pm in Butrovich 104. At the very least if you're not sure what the best approach is or exactly what your training needs are, call the Support Center (x8300) and they can initiate a help desk request ticket.�

HR Training Calendar

The Statewide Office of Human Resources is sponsoring a variety of classes in February and March 2011 for University employees. The calendar can be viewed online and employees may register for a number of events via the calendar.

Supervising Student Employees at UA

Wednesday, February 23, 10:00 a.m., Butrovich 109
The "Employment of Students" is described in the University of Alaska Board of Regents’ Policy 9.05.� This session provides supervisors with a briefing on a variety of topics, including� the BOR Policy & University Regulation, discussion of the supervisor’s role & responsibilities and the setting of general work expectations and standards. Working at UA as a Student Employee – An Introduction

Some student employees begin their work experience at the University of Alaska.� Or if they have prior work experience, it may be limited. Learning about general work expectations and standards on topics such as dress code, reporting to work on time, anticipated changes in work schedule, conduct on the job, etc. are important topics for student employees to learn about early in their career.� REGISTER HERE.

Participants will receive an overview of equal employment opportunity laws, the behaviors which lead to illegal discrimination claims and ways to prevent or respond to incidents. This session will also address bullying in the workplace. REGISTER HERE

The webinars are generally 45 minutes in length and are open to University of Alaska employees system-wide.� There are no fees to attend a ComPsych webinar. To ensure proper departmental coverage, supervisory approval is needed if the webinar takes place during the employee’s work hours. Employees may join these webinars from their desk or any computer and telephone.� A toll-free number is provided to join the audio portion of the webinar.�

To register, simply select the desired training event on the calendar and enter your name, email address, telephone number and click “submit.”� Registered participants receive a reminder email and the webinar handouts 24-48 hours prior to the webinar.�
