Joey Crum was appointed by Governor Dunleavy in 2023. Regent Crum was raised on the Kenai Peninsula by a public school teacher and a skilled journeyman. His parents ingrained in him that education comes in many forms and that a strong work ethic is crucial to success. Blessed with the opportunity to learn a skilled trade which he leveraged to pay for his university education, Regent Crum is passionate about creating that same opportunity and support for others.

As President & CEO of Northern Industrial Training in Palmer, Regent Crum has dedicated his professional life to training and promoting workplace skills. He has traveled to communities throughout the state to train Alaskans and help them define their training needs and dreams.

After graduating from Homer High School, Regent Crum earned his Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Puget Sound, a Juris Doctorate from Gonzaga University School of Law, and a Master of Science in organizational leadership from Columbia Southern University. He is a member of the US Air and Space Force Civil Leaders Program, the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Civilian Advisory Board, and was recognized as Civic Leader of the Year by the Armed Services YMCA of Alaska. Regent Crum previously served on the Alaska Commission on Post-Secondary Education, where he was twice elected as chair. Most recently, Regent Crum chaired the board of My House, a homeless youth drop-in shelter in Wasilla.

He lives in Wasilla with his wife, a public school teacher, and two daughters.
