Presidential Search Update

Board moves forward in presidential search

The Board of Regents is meeting in Anchorage for its annual retreat this week, Jan. 26 and 27, 2010.

The agenda includes considerable time on the search for a new president of the UA System. President Hamilton announced last June that he wants to retire this year.

Board members won’t take action at the annual retreat; they expect to hold additional meetings on the subject as they work to select a small group of finalists, perhaps as soon as the end of February.

The board also is slated to discuss the presidential search during the February board meeting in Fairbanks, set for Feb. 17-18, 2010, in Room 109 of the Butrovich Building.

Board Chair Cynthia Henry said members hope a group of finalists will be able to make campus visits by early spring, with a decision on a new president expected sometime after that.

The schedule of campus visits, a list of finalists and short biographies will be published on the website just as soon as those decisions are made and details arranged. Go to www.alaska.edu and click on “presidential search.”
