About the Academic and Administrative Reviews
UA Board of Regents' Policy 10.06.010 allows for expedited, exceptional program reviews tailored to particular financial circumstances.
At the Sept. 12, 2019 Board of Regents meeting, UAF, UAA and UAS were asked to each move forward with expedited reviews to potentially find cost savings. University-level review resources are included below. The next step is for statewide coordination, review and ultimately Board of Regents decisions.
At the same time, the three universities and Statewide are conducting administrative reviews to identify opportunities for cost savings and reductions to meet budget targets.
University-Specific Expedited Review Information (AY19-20)
University of Alaska Anchorage
Rather than predetermining a set of programs for review on the institutional level,
UAA wants all programs to participate. The chancellor and Provost John Stalvey discussed
this with different groups on campus, and believe it is the best way forward for a
fair and equitable process. The completed reviews were due to the deans on Jan. 31,
2020, just one day earlier than for the regular cyclical process.

templates, on the Academic Program Review website. The chairs of the program review committees received guidance regarding the expedited
program review and templates Friday, Oct. 18.

University of Alaska Fairbanks
UAF will be conducting expedited program reviews during the 2019-2020 academic year. They finalized the review process (PDF) and the list of departments and programs (PDF) that will be reviewed based on low enrollment and high cost. These documents and more
are posted on Provost Prakash's UAF expedited academic program reviews website. Expedited review will focus on department and program enrollments, cost effectiveness,
academic quality and centrality to UAF’s mission. Committees include representatives recommended by Faculty Senate, ASUAF and Staff
Council. The website includes the name of the review committee members.

At UAS, faculty in a number of programs have been asked to answer specific questions
related to enhancing programs, consolidating programs, and reducing program costs.
Faculty in fourteen programs have been provided specific questions to focus on in
assessing program alignment with UAS’ mission. Each program has been provided a deadline
for submitting the review prior to the end of the calendar year. The UAS Strategic
Planning and Budget Committee and Faculty Senate will review results of the expedited
reviews and make recommendations to the Executive Cabinet by March 2020. The process
will conclude by April 2020.
