Phishing Alert | Email Subject: "E-mail Security Alert" | 07 Jan 2014


OIT has been receiving notices of a phishing email making it's way into people inboxes.  The email reports the user's account has been suspended and has the user follow a link to regain access.


If you have received this message in your Google Apps @ UA email account, you can report the message as a phishing attempt using Google's Report Phishing tool.

If you received this message in any other email account, please delete the message.

The email message is:

The email asks the recipient to follow a link, asks the user to login to a replica UAF page.

DO NOT reply to this email or login with the form.  If you did, you should immediately change your password using ELMO.



Phishing Indications

Here are a few of the things to look for when identifying this message as phishing:

  • The email address is not a real University of Alaska address.
  • The URL (link) is not a University of Alaska address.
  • The email reports the user's account is suspended.
    Note: If your account is suspended, you wouldn't be able to login to your email.

Always be cautious when emails or websites ask for personal information or passwords.
