ELMO Introduction

A brief overview of what ELMO is, and what ELMO is used for.

ELMO (Easy Login Maintenance Option)

ELMO (Easy Login Maintenance Option) is the University of Alaska's centralized password utility. ELMO allows you to change your password for the UA centralized authentication service, commonly referred to as Authserv. Authserv provides a central UA Username and password to be used across multiple University services.

Option 2

Option 2 allows you to provide your UA Username, or UA ID Number, verify some basic questions about your identity, and once verified allow you to change your password. This option is most common among existing students, staff, and faculty members who may have forgotten their password.

Option 3

Option 3 allows you to priovide some basic information about yourself, and answer some additional questions about your identity, to discover your UA Username and UA ID Number, and establish a password. This is commonly used among new students, staff, and faculty members to setup their accounts for the first time.

Security Settings

Overview of the Security Settings in ELMO.

ELMO will always let you login to change a password you know with Option 1. However, if you forgot your password, you can login to ELMO with Options 2 or 3 to perform a self-service password reset. The security policy you choose will affect your use of options 2 and 3.

Standard Security

The Standard security policy verifies your identity using the standard ELMO security questions, based on information the University of Alaska has on file for you. This information includes your date of birth, social security number, phone number, high school, prior student status, and employment data.

Custom Security

The Additional security policy uses the same verification as the Standard policy, but adds custom questions and responses that you provide.
From the Security Settings page, you can set your question and response, as well as view your current response.

Maximum Security

The Maximum security policy disables Options 2 and 3 for self-service password resets; Option 1 is unaffected. This provides customers who are victims of identity theft, stalking, or simply security conscious a means to limit access to their account.

Synchronizing Passwords

If you are logging in to change your password, click the "Skip for now" button.

If you would like all of your passwords to match, click the "Synchronize passwords" button.

NOTE: This won't work if your current password is expired and needs to be changed.
