FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The 2009 Statewide Staff Campaign Kick Off event was held on May 11th, 2009. This year’s participation goal has been set at 67%. The campaign has truly been a remarkable success in the past years. In 2008, the Statewide Staff exceeded the goal of 65% by reaching an all time high of 67% participation.
The participation goal illustrates how committed statewide staff is to preserving the many scholarships available to students attending UA. This spring over 3700 applications were processed for 636 scholarships. Some of the scholarships benefitted greatly from the staff campaign.
President Hamilton expressed his great appreciation for his staff who have continually exceed his expectations every year. The true spirit of the statewide staff speaks loudly when many express their generosity every year by participating.
This year’s kick-off event featured a fund that speaks closely to many of the statewide staff. The Phil Rounds Memorial Scholarship was unveiled at the event in honor of Statewide’s very own, Bess Rounds. Chief Phil Rounds recently passed away in November and speaking on behalf of the scholarship was UAF’s Fire Department Captain Forrest Kuiper. The scholarship will be awarded to future UAF students who will major in Fire Science. Chief Rounds memory will continue to live on through all the lives he has touched as one of UAF’s Fire Department finest, including those who will benefit from receiving the scholarship.
