STEM success stories

EPSCoR is showcasing the unique characteristics that Alaskans bring to STEM by sharing a series of interviews with former University of Alaska students in successful STEM careers. Interviewees include:

  • Carla Cartagena De Jesus, a Puerto Rico native and first-generation college student who works as a pediatrician at Fairbanks' Tanana Valley Clinic.
  • Thomas Hughes, an Alaska Native and first-generation college student who works as an engineer for the Alaska Department of Transportation.
  • Liz Dennett, who received a Ph.D in Geomicrobiology and Astrobiology and now works for Amazon Web Services.
