   The 2016 Hackathon

Many Alaska ACE EOD outreach efforts reached beyond the University of Alaska and connected with the wider community. These included:

Stakeholder Engagement. EOD partnered with all three Test Cases to support events that brought local stakeholders together to both contribute to research efforts and benefit from them. Stakeholder engagement is at the center of a major report from the ACE project, "Sharing Questions, Sharing Answers."

TREND Alaska. Alaska EPSCoR partnered with the Technology Research and Development Center of Alaska (Alaska TREND) at the University of Alaska Anchorage to provide small grants to Alaskan startup businesses seeking to secure larger  federal funding.

Alaska Seed Fund. In 2017, ACE co-sponsored an "Alaska Seed Fund" competition for Alaska businesses with innovative ideas. The winning firm, CognitiveDoc, LLC, received $20,000 for its “carebot” virtual caregiver service designed to help patients avoid readmission to the hospital after surgeries like knee and hip replacements. More than 70 firms and individuals applied for the funding; nine other entrants received awards of more than $3,300.

Interior Alaska Hackathon. ACE supported this annual weekend-long effort to create new computer programs and apps to serve local needs.

Newsletters. Alaska ACE published newsletters at least once a year to update stakeholders on reearch and outreach efforts.

Social media and videos. In addition to the newsletter, ACE continually updated this website and engaged in several forms of social media, including Facebook and Twitter. ACE also produced a series of video spots highlighting current research and outreach, which are posted on the organization's YouTube channel and were broadcast on public television.

Public speakers. ACE sponsored a number of lectures and presentations on relevant topics, including serving as a sponsor of the Science For Alaska lecture series.
