Mark Oldmixon - Coordinator

Mark became the Coordinator for Outdoor Adventures in April 2007 after a year and half as the graduate assistant to Outdoor Adventures. He completed his Master's in Education at UAF in April 2007 as well. He hopes to grow the program to include more technical skills training and certification courses. He has also developed a wilderness leadership curriculum which he is offering through the Natural Resource Management School.

Credentials: American Mountain Guide Top-Rope Site Manager, PCIA Instructor Educator Candidate,  ACA Canoe/ Kayak Instructor, BCU 3-star paddler, Level 2 Coach Trainee, Wilderness First Responder.

Trainings: Level 1 Avalanche; Whitewater Rescue Technician; Advanced Mountaineering with Alaska Mountaineering School.

Eli Crispell - Graduate Assistant

Eli came to us in August 2007 from the coast of Maine. He brings much experience with him including sea kayaking on the coast of Maine, Outward Bound instruction experience and rock climbing in Mexico. Eli will be teaching many of our recreational classes througout the year. He is looking forward to leading an advanced paddlers trip through the tidal races around Homer, AK.

Credentials: Wilderness First Responder, American Mountain Guide Association Top-Rope Site Manager, PCIA Instructor Educator Candidate, BCU 4-star paddler, BCU level 2 coach

Trainings: Level 1 Avalanche; Whitewater Rescue Technician.

Bryson DeRonde - Student Assitant

Bryson comes to UAF from Virginia and Texas. After recognizing the amount of fun that can be had during an Alaskan winter, he decided to stick around for the summer knowing it would be three times as fun.

Credentials: Wilderness First Responder, PCIA Instructor Candidate, Completed Introduction and Advanced Wilderness Leadership..

Max Bartlett - Student Assistant

Max spent a summer in Homer, AK after high school and decided Alaska was the place for him. Since being at UAF he has become very involved in the Outdoor Adventure program and this summer will be a student trip leader focusing on our sea kayak program.


Credentials: Wilderness First Responder, PCIA Bottom Belayed Site Manager, Completed Introduction and Advanced Wilderness Leadership.

James Smith - Student Assistant

James spent a few years in Fairbanks while living on Eilson Air Force Base with his family. He left New York to come back to Alaska for college. After completing Introduction to Wilderness Leadership, James became an intern in our office and is now a summer employee. He will be doing a large portion of our backpacking and climbing programs.

Credentials: Wilderness First Responder, PCIA Bottom Belayed Site Manager, Completed Introduction and Advanced Wilderness Leadership.
