UAF Mobile Apps

UAF Mobile released!


The UAFmobile application is available at the iTunes App Store. The UAFmobile iPhone application provides live data to students, faculty, and staff with information about a variety of university services. In November, our latest release will include an improved map, a new shuttle tracker, ski trails, emergency contact dialer, and a course finder. The current application includes a campus building and location map, UAF online videos, campus news feeds and directory lookup (find people on campus). Download it for free today from the iTunes app store.

Students can also download Mobile Learn; this free iPhone application provides mobile access to Blackboard courses. To find this application on iTunes, search for Blackboard Mobile Learn. After installing Mobile Learn, select University of Alaska Fairbanks as your university.

Do you have an idea for a great mobile application?
Do you want millions of people throughout the world to see your application?�
OIT is hosting a mobile application contest. If you know how to create applications for Apple, Blackberry and/or Android phones, you could win the grand prize. First place winner will receive an Apple iPad and we'll publish your app to the iTunes, Android or Blackberry app stores. Go to http://www.alaska.edu/oit/contest/ for contest rules and details. Participants must submit their entries by the end of today. The winner will be announced on Dec. 8, 2010.

Training information

Blackboard upgrade & training
Blackboard is scheduled to be upgraded from v8 to v9.1 the first week of January 2011.� To that end, we are offering (http://www.alaska.edu/oit/training) a variety of introductory sessions to acquaint you with the upgraded Blackboard interface (and yes, it IS different).� So watch for those sessions - for more information click on the BlackBoard Learn icon on our training page or click on our calendar to sign up! http://www.alaska.edu/oit/training.

Keep an eye out for our new training calendar which we expect to debut before the December holiday break!

iTunes U
iTunes U is now active and faculty who want to start using iTunes U must sign up for a course account and after they receive their course account access, we encourage you to sign up for and attend one of our "Configuring Your iTunes U Course Account" classes. - iTunes U course account signup is at http://www.uaf.edu/multimedia/podcasts/submit.html

With the advent of iTunes U you may be interested in creating content that can be uploaded to your iTunes U account. So, if your interests are in that vein, then sign up for one of our podcast related classes on our calendar.

Quick online training videos
Don't forget, that for those quick "I-need-to-know-how-to" questions, sometimes the answer is a web site away. Take a look at http://www.atomiclearning.com/highed/ for short FREE 2-3 minutes videos on a variety of software that you may be using.

Microsoft Office 2010
Last, but not least, we are gearing up to offer Microsoft Office 2010 training classes so check our training page frequently!

Drop-in Fridays and Training Contacts
Remember that you can drop by our office in 319B Bunnell if you need some one-on-one help or have a question. We're also willing to train a group from your office as well.� And of course there are our usual Friday drop-in hours of 1-2 p.m. for Google Apps-iTunesU-Podcasting help, Blackboard (the current version or the scheduled new version)� from 2-4 pm in 319B Bunnell and TOAD-Roxen from 2-4 pm in Butrovich 104.
