Violent intruder training in the Butrovich on November 13 will include a combined training response for Alaska State Troopers, University Police, Fairbanks and North Pole police, and medical units. A pre-exercise training overview will be presented November 3. All Statewide staff should attend the briefing session and participate in the drill.

Governor Parnell Unveils New Scholarship

Governor Sean Parnell unveiled a proposal October 6, that would allow all Alaska high school students to earn tuition scholarships for use after high school at qualifying Alaska schools. The Governor’s Performance Scholarship, or GPS, is a merit-based scholarship for Alaska high school students. To qualify, students will have to take four years of math, language arts and science, in addition to three years of social studies. MORE...

Flu shots at UAA

UAA Emergency Preparedness is working with the Anchorage Department of Health and Human Services to bring free H1N1 vaccination clinics to the campus. Six Points of Dispensing have been planned so far, and will be available to the public. Ron Swartz has scheduled six-hour distribution points for Nov. 7, 14 and 21 in the Student Union as well as Dec. 5, 12, and 19 in the Cuddy Center. UA's working relationship with preparedness officials at the city level will likely result in additional vaccine clinics during the busy weekdays in November.

SAA News

The Statewide Administration Assembly, the governance group for Statewide employees, last met Oct. 14, 2009. At the meeting they discussed the presidential search, staff compensation, UA's non-retention policy, retirement, holiday leave, the Google transition and the Joint Health Care Committee's reccomended changes to the health plan.  MORE....
