This biography of Baranov's life, written by his contemporary K.T. Khlebnikov, chronicles the period 1790 to 1818. During these years, Baranov served as the head of the Russian America Company in Alaska. Khlebnikov's account includes discussion of trade goods, sea otter hunting, Russian and American vessels, and Russian relations with Native Alaskans.
