The four life histories that make up this catalog- the basis for the exhibit "The Artists Behind the Work- have all sorts of things to offer the reader. They are fascinating stories about interesting people. They are Alaskan history up close, on an intimate and very local level during a period of tremendous change in this northern region. Based on oral history interviews, they are enlivened with the directness of first-hand experience and personal knowledge.
