| UAF students are tomorrow’s local, state, and national leaders. The NLC offers Alaska’s emerging leaders the best environment and resources to develop their leadership potential and enhance their overall educational experience. The NLC fosters productive collaboration between academic and co-curricular programs, enabling leadership development at all levels. Vision:
Acting as a networking hub for leadership programs, the NLC is a center of ideas, activities, leadership development programs, leadership recognition programs, and a leadership/policy think-tank. Within the context of a uniquely Alaskan landscape, the NLC looks inward to cultivate leadership among those with greatest potential at UAF. The center reaches outward to communities throughout the state and—as it expands beyond our state borders, to offer leadership development and to support the work of other programs to ensure that the leadership needs of Alaska are fulfilled. Membership:
The NLC brings together members of the UAF Leadership Initiative Task Force to share ideas, resources, leadership activities and opportunities, and to develop teams to work on new leadership initiatives at UAF. Current Activities: Offer a unique leadership course called Leadership Alaska: Making a Difference, which pairs participating Alaska Scholars with a recognized state leader as a mentor. Link UAF leadership courses offered through the School of Management, the Honors Program, the Tanana Valley Campus Applied Business program, the ROTC program, and the Northern Studies Leadership and Civic Engagement Minor. Serve as a resource and maintain a directory of leadership programs and opportunities at UAF. Support co-curricular programming for UAF students through the Leadership Development Program at the Wood Center. Sponsor the UAF Summer Leadership Institute for high school students. Offer a major annual speaker series of interest to the University community, with outreach to Fairbanks and the state. Provide training workshops in communication, conflict management, group dynamics, dealing with difficult people, managing diversity, facilitation, motivation, and various leadership topics to local for-profit and non-profit organizations throughout the state. Fund and conduct research on leadership issues.

10th Annual UAF Student Leadership Conference October 16-17, 2009
The 10th annual UAF Student Leadership Conference is right around the corner and we are so excited! The conference is happening October 16th & 17th at the UAF Wood Center and our theme is “Communication: Talk, Listen, Lead!” We are currently accepting proposals for engaging and informative educational workshops to be presented at the conference. Fantastic workshops are the backbone of a great conference, so we encourage you to share your expertise with students! Please submit your proposal to the UAF Leadership Conference planning committee on or before September 21st. The proposal form is located on line at www.uaf.edu/leadership.
