Cellist Minna Rose Chung performs internationally as a recitalist and chamber musician. As a recipient of numerous national awards, she has performed alongside many of the world's leading musicians. In 2003, cellist Minna Rose Chung joined the University of Alaska-Fairbanks as Assistant Professor of Cello. Ms. Chung is the principal chair of both the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra and the Arctic Chamber Orchestra. She is also a member of the Alaska Piano Trio and the Alaska Chamber Players.

At age 12, Ms. Chung debuted under the baton of Maestro Isaiah Jackson of the London Royal Ballet and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. Her performance with the Columbus Symphony garnered national recognition and subsequently led Ms. Chung to move to Los Angeles, California after accepting an invitation to study at the renowned Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts. Upon graduation, she attended the Oberlin Conservatory as a 4-yr Dean's Talent Scholar recipient. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Cello Performance with a minor in musicology from the Oberlin Conservatory. Ms. Chung continued her formal education with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach, Florida and later as a Fellow with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and Northwestern University School of Music, during which she earned a Masters of Music in Cello Performance. Throughout her career, Ms. Chung has studied under the tutelage of John Waltz, Norman Fischer, and Hans Jorgen Jensen.

Minna has attended summer music festivals in Aspen, Tanglewood, master classes in Orford Centre for the Arts in Quebec, and as a teaching assistant for the Meadowmount School of Music.   Though she maintains a demanding performance schedule, Minna Rose is a dedicated teacher. She served as Lecturer of Music and faculty cellist at Lawrence University Conservatory and Academy of Music (Appleton, WI) and Ripon College (Ripon, WI). Her prize-winning students continuously distinguished themselves at festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival, Interlochen, Meadowmount, Boston University Tanglewood Institute, and Tanglewood Music Center. Since teaching at UAF, her studio claims the winner for the Anchorage Symphony Scholarship Competition; National Endowment for the Advancement of the Arts, Honorable Mention award; and the 2004 winner of the National Yamaha Young Artist Award.

Professor Chung is a member of the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) and has been on the faculty of the UAF Music Academy, Fairbanks String Symposium, as well as international guest artist/chamber coach to the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival (http://www.fsaf.org), Santo Domingo Music Festival, Innsbrook School of Music Institute, and recitalist in conjunction with the Rio de Janeiro International Cello Encounter in Brazil.

Ms. Chung has recorded with The New World Symphony, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Renee Fleming in Music of Villa-Lobos with the RCA Victor Red Seal label. She is also featured with the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra, with conductor Eduard Zilberkant and pianist Lambis Vassiliardis. Ms. Chung can be heard in exclusive broadcasts for NPR National Public Radio, WFMT Radio Fine Arts Chicago, WPNE Green Bay, and KUAC Fairbanks, Alaska.
 Ms. Chung made her New York debut in Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall with her ensemble, the  Pangea String Quartet (www.pangeaquartet.com)  in 2007 as part of the Kronos Quartet Young Artists Concert.  Minna is currently a Doctorate of Musical Arts advanced candidate at Stony Brook University with renowned cellist Colin Carr.  Minna Rose performs on a 1770 AUGUSTINIUS CHAPPUY French cello and a 1999 Isaac Salchow bow.
