Dr. James Bicigo is Associate Professor of Low Brass and Composition at UAF. He is a member of the Borealis Brass and performs with the Fairbanks Symphony and Arctic Chamber Orchestras. Dr. Bicigo has performed as a soloist with the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra, the Marquette (Michigan) Senior High School Symphony, The Michigan Technological University and Northern Michigan University combined bands (under the baton of Henry Charles Smith), the West Valley High School Orchestra and the Marquette (Michigan) City Band. He is an active performer and clinician throughout the United states and his solo performances have been broadcast on ABC (Australia Broadcasting Company) National Radio in Australia. Dr. Bicigo's students have won promotions within the US Army band system, gone on to further study at major universities, won the Fairbanks Symphony Concerto Competition. His high school students consistently place in the Alaska All State and All Northwest honors ensembles and have had command performances at State solo and ensemble competition.

As a composer, Dr. Bicigo has composed for orchestra and chorus, mixed voices, brass and woodwinds. The UAF University Chorus recently commissioned a Magnificat from him and Arts Venture has requested three compositions for SATB Chorus and piano using texts of Lord Byron for the Lord Byron Society. Dr. Bicigo's compositions and arrangements for brass are published by Cor Music Publishers and distributed by Wiltshire Music. Recently two of his composition students had premiers at the UNESCO World Forum on Music in Los Angeles, California.
