These two related programs have been a source of several projects within Extension. We are finding a growing trend of land owners who desire more information on tree care oriented toward a broader land ownership plan. This concept has been broadly supported throughout the United States as a function of the Cooperative Extensnion Service in cooperation with other agencies such as the State Forestry programs.

What we have been doing

• What is Forestry - Connecting communities (A multi-state primary school education program funded by a grant from the UA)
• Discussing forestry in Alaska with senior citizens
• Tree Care and Woodland Stewardship course
• Have been a judge at the High School state science fair and have participated in offering several forestry science awards in the school district science fair
• Participated for the past 10 years as a member of the Forest Stewardship Council to oversee statewide forest stewardship programs
• Provided workshops in Alaska on agroforestry
• Presentation on Tree Physiology and Tree Classification
