Petroleum engineers design and plan the upstream operations of oil and gas exploration and production. Petroleum engineers work in field and office settings in both private and government organizations. Because oil and gas are an international commodity petroleum engineers have the opportunity to work in the U.S and overseas.
UAF Petroleum engineering students study drilling operations, well planning and completion, well logging, oil and gas production, reservoir performance and maximizing oil and gas recovery.
Undergraduate students entering the Petroleum engineering program will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum engineering and may continue to pursue a Masters degree.
UAF petroleum engineering students gain practical experience inside and outside the classroom. They have access to unique research opportunities in Alaska and specialized laboratory equipment.
Petroleum engineers are in high demand in Alaska and worldwide. UAF engineering students and graduates are recruited by a variety of companies to fill summer internships and high paying full time positions.
