B. S. Petroleum Engineering

Petroleum engineering is the practical application of the basic sciences and all of the engineering sciences to develop and produce petroleum and other energy resources from wells. The petroleum engineering curriculum at UAF is designed to prepare graduates to meet the demands of modern technology while emphasizing the special problems encountered in Alaska. We offer one of the most modern and challenging degree programs anywhere, and are located in the heart of the nation’s energy frontier.

Courses in petroleum engineering deal with, drilling, formation evaluation, production, reservoir engineering, computer simulation, and enhanced oil recovery.

Due to the high quality of our petroleum engineering program and the amount of oil and gas activity in the state, UAF petroleum engineering graduates enjoy high placement rate with more than 98 percent of our graduates in permanent positions in the oil industry or in graduate school. The major oil and gas producing and drilling service companies offer summer internships to our students in Alaska and the lower 48 states.

See the Prospective Student site to inquire about this program and learn more about admissions requirements.

Interdisciplinary Degree

The UAF Interdisciplinary Degree program provides flexibility to students who have well-defined goals that do not fit into one of the established majors offered by the university.
