The Department was established in 1981 in the College of Engineering and Mines. In a continued effort to meet with the Mission of the University in enhancing Alaskan's energy future, the Petroleum Development Laboratory (PDL) was established in 1984.
PDL is a research unit in the College of Engineering and Mines, the faculty of which work in collaboration with the faculty of the Petroleum Engineering Department under the umbrella of the Petroleum Engineering Program.
Though admission into any of the graduate degrees in Petroleum Engineering is highly competitive, it's flexibility in accommodating those with industry experience makes it easier for working engineers to take advantage of the opportunity.
