ME faculty and students participate in the Engineering Week Open House
University of Alaska Fairbanks engineering students and professors celebrated the engineering profession with an open house in the Duckering Building Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006. The open house took place in conjunction with National Engineers Week, an annual event to increase public awareness and appreciation of engineers and their work. The open house included demonstrations of the latest engineering technology as well as interactive activities for people of all ages.
Mechanical Engineering professors demonstrated various experimental techniques: Doug Goering (Wind Tunnel), Deban Das (Boiling Heat Transfer, Convection Over Fins), Chuen-Sen Lin (CAD/CAM Demo), and Jing Zhang (Digital Microscopy). Eric Johansen, Machine Shop technician, also demonstrated the new Haas SL-20 Turning center and Stirling Engines.
Many ME students also served as volunteers in organizing exhibits. Alicia Dehmlow, Vice Chair of Student Section ASME, coordinated the ME participation.
"The Open House is a great way for the College of Engineering & Mines to recognize National Engineers Week and pique engineering interest throughout the community", said Lisa Minnear, Recruiting Coordinator of UAF College of Engineering & Mines.
