Louise Farquharson is a Ph.D. student focusing her research on the NSF project: 'Understanding the impacts of thermokarst lakes on carbon cycling and climate change'. Specifically within the project Louise aims to use lake cores and exposed drained lake basins to better understand the initiation and formation of thermokarst lakes. Her field sites are located in Cherskii, Siberia and Seward Peninsula, Alaska.
Louise’s BSc. in Physical Geography is from the University of Sussex, UK with her dissertation focusing on loess-paleosol sequences found along the SE English coastline. Louise first came to Alaska as an undergraduate exchange student in 2005 and has spent most of her time away from Alaska plotting how to return.
